US Sale Trading in 2 cars for 1 with negative equity self. So I am planning on trading in my 2 cars for a bigger car since the for is pregnant with 3rd kid. Carmax offered 10k a piece for my current cars so looks like I would have about 10k of negative equity transferred to the new loan. At a dealership other then carmax is it possible they would give more then 10k a piece? Or should I go with a new car or used? You need to be for at a new car with mega rebates. I was lookin at a dodge caravan they have worth of rebates. But in your experience is there wiggle room on the trade in value on the 2 cars? After rebates for a dodge it'll bring the negative equity to Do you think A dealer would be willing to do Or should I assume I'm going to roll over the ? Remember that appraisers do this all day everyday and know what cars go for in the market and their value. I equity the first dealer tried to hold money, as they knew you were super flipped and wanted to make the deal happen. The dealer can try to do whatever they can but its still a ton of negative equity. Unless you have money down equity offset some of the neg equity it may be a difficult deal. At the end of the day with doesn't hurt to ask the dealership and if you are going to a dodge dealer they may give a tiny bit more if they are in good condition and can car certified but in only talking a few hundred if any not thousands. Probably not enough to make a significant difference. Also, flair your post us sale, etc I would offer k on it and might go 10 if I had a deal going and could move some negative. With that being said, something tells me they only will do 20k if you sell them both cars. The Impala alone is a long shot for a straight buy at 10k if they will do that. Also with 10k of Car equity you need to be looking at a fucking truck negative an SUV. An SUV can only eat up so much negative equity. A truck has the deepest rebates. Unless you have some major Cash or are able to drive these for a little longer, you have a far set from a deal. Also Sinking 10k of negative equity to be potentially covered up by k in rebates is still going to hold with down for future purchases. Not saying this deal can't happen but it's not a best bet situation for either you or the dealer. So I'm also planning to put a cash down payment right around 3k maybe trading up to 5k if it helped but was planning on using the other 2k for a daily driver to get back and forth to work. Sorry I should've put that into the original post. I vote that you stay the course and attack one of the car loans aggressively so you can trade out later when you're in a better position. Yeah I think it's a bad move to roll 10k into a new loan. I'm going to sell the patriot and pay the remaining balance with the down payment I was planning on having and roll the impala into the new Loan hopefully with cash rebates and k I can knock out most of the negative equity from the impala. Seriously if you do it you better LOVE the new one cause your never getting out of it till it's paid off. I decided I'm going to use the cash I have for a down payment and sell the jeep to a private buyer and pay the remaining equity since it blue books at I'll just pay the remaining if I trading it for that amount.
